The Pacific Northwest Node of NRRSS covers Oregon , Washington , Idaho and Montana .

PNW Data Compilation Process

  1. Site Visits, File Cabinets, and Websites.
  2. Searched for electronic databases of stream restoration projects
  3. Received electronic copies of databases
  4. Created a crosswalk to PNW database
  5. Extracted information from descriptive fields
  6. Categorized projects by intents and activities
  7. Checked uploaded data and corrected mistakes
  8. Used GIS to show location points from lat/longs, TRS's , and LLID information, then backfilled additional location information.
  9. Tested query tool
  10. Standardized organization names and subbasins between datasets.

Results

The following table lists the sources of data used in compiling the largest NRRSS Node database with 23,636 project records.

The figure below shows the distribution of projects in the Pacific Northwest, with the highest densities of river restoration projects corresponding to areas with higher population densities, and also to areas with listed salmonids as threatened or endangered species.

Current Activities

NOAA Fisheries

  • Finalizing the database with QA/QC
  • Writing up results with PNW team-members

NW Data Contributors

  • Reviewing uploaded data for approval to make the dataset public

University of Idaho (with funding from Bureau of Reclamation)

  • Completing interviews about randomly selected restoration projects in the PNW.
  • Creating a validation plan for projects listed in the database, including site visits.
